RSS Generator

Getting your headlines to appear in news feeds requires the creation and maintenance of an RSS file. The RSS code generator below will help you to create the RSS file required. Each time you update your website with new stories, simply visit this site, fill out the form below, and then follow the easy instructions for putting the feed on your website.

Step-by-step process to create the file for your feed:

  1. Fill in the details about your newspaper
  2. Select how many headlines (up to 10) you want your feed to have.
  3. Fill in the form with links, titles and descriptions for each article.
  4. Click on the "Make the Code" button. The code will appear in the window below the button.
  5. Copy and paste the code into a plain text document (use a program such as NotePad), and save the file as "rss.xml"

Step-by-step process to publish your feed the first time:

  1. Save the "rss.xml" file in the root directory of your website.
  2. You need to provide a link on your website to the feed. Copy the code below and paste in into your web page where you want a link to appear.

    <a href="/rss.xml"><img src="http://www.communitynews.ca/rss/xml.gif" width="36" height="14" border="0" alt="RSS Feed"></a><link href="/rss.xml" rel="alternate" type="application/rss+xml" title="Community News">

Step-by-step process to update your feed:

  1. Create the file as described above, saving the file as "rss.xml" as you did before.
  2. Replace the existing file with the new file. Subscribers will automatically access the new version of the file.
