The members of the Canadian Community Newspapers Association are proud to recognize
individuals for long service to the community newspaper industry and those who
have made a distinguished contribution to the association. The Board of Directors
presents awards to deserving individuals in the following categories:
Gold Quill Award
This award is presented to any member of the association who has been actively
engaged in the weekly newspaper business for an accumulated total of 50 years
or longer, who is or has been for a part of that period an owner, executive officer
of an owner, editor or publisher or has served as President of the Association,
giving freely of time, energy, talent and ability for the betterment of the Association.
Five years of military service may be included in the 50 year period. The purpose
of this honour is to pay tribute to those who have so faithfully served the weekly
newspaper profession in Canada.
Silver Quill Award
The Silver Quill is awarded to any person engaged in the weekly newspaper business
for a period of 25 years or longer who has been or is for part of that period
an owner, executive of the owner, editor or publisher. Five years of military
service may be included in the 25 year period. This award is presented in recognition
of this service to journalism.
Bronze Quill Award
Publishers of member newspapers may recognize long and distinguished service of
staff members by presenting them with a Bronze Quill award. These certificates
are similar to the Silver and Gold Quill awards in design. The wording of the
certificate identifies that the newspaper is a member of the Canadian Community
Newspapers Association.
Nominations
Nominations for Gold Quills and Silver Quills must be submitted to a regional
association for review prior to being forwarded to the CCNA Board of Directors
for consideration. Silver Quill certificates and Gold Quill plaques are presented
at regional or national conventions.
Nominations for Bronze Quills are submitted to the CCNA office and do not require
approval by the CCNA Board of Directors. Nomination forms may be obtained from
the CCNA office or downloaded from this page.
The President's Gold Quill is presented to the outgoing CCNA
President at the completion of his or her term in recognition of their commitment
to the community newspaper industry and their dedicated service as president of
the association. The presentation is made at CCNA's national convention.
Honorary Life Membership
An Honorary Life Membership may be awarded by the CCNA board of directors to
a General Member who has performed meritorious services beyond the normal and
regular duties of membership in and on behalf of CCNA. Honorary Life Membership
may also be awarded to friends of CCNA who have, over a period of years, contributed
their support and understanding towards the improvement of community journalism
in Canada. Honorary Life Memberships are presented at CCNA's national convention.
Nominations for Honorary Life Memberships must be submitted to
the CCNA Executive Committee for review prior to being forwarded to the CCNA Board
of Directors for consideration.
