Judge's Comments
After the points are tallied, little separates the top two - though both are very different newspapers: Lookout plays clean grid-based design cards; the CFB Halifax (NS) Maritime Forces Atlantic Trident spins interesting sea yarns. In the end, the nod goes to story telling and content - as it should. Interestingly, the Trident also played design cards - but too many, using every trick in the deck, at times, to distraction. It should be noted that all three papers judged are well aimed at their target audiences, delivering information of interest to military audiences. The Trident, however, breaks these narrow bounds, perhaps over presenting stories visually, yet presenting content that has broader appeal, "good reads" compelling enough to draw non-military readers.
