Out of 60 entries, 10 photographs captured my eye.
Pam Doyle’s "Whitewater Wizard" entry had to win because of the clean tight image and presentation on the front page of the Canmore (AB) Leader. The photograph of Scott Feindel earning a spot on the Canadian National Freestyle Kayak team paddling into the turbulent waters of the Kanaskis River had everything, colour, action, intensity, good work!
Arthur Veitch nailed a great shot "Blast of Sand" with the Grande Cache (AB) Mountaineer. It is a great photo of a lone golfer powering his ball out of a sand trap. He captured the moment that sand, ball and the golfer’s eye froze forever. It deserved the front page!
Only one point separated first and second placements, but third was difficult to decide. I went with Ken MacPherson "Rugby" of the Bridgetown/Middleton (NS) Monitor-Examiner’s image because of the humour that went with the expressions in that frozen moment in time. As you look down the picture, one of his teammates is lifting him up by his shorts enabling him to reach up high.
