Judge's Comments
This category had a wide range of subjects entered, but the five top entries depicted familiar scenes exceptionally well, by capturing unique moments. First place went to James Murray of the Salmon Arm (BC) Observer, for his picture of a back flip into a lake. The photographer captured a great moment, making a summer weather photograph a contender for the front page. The second place photograph by Pam Doyle, of the Canmore (AB) Leader, capitalized on natural lighting to add to an already emotional event. Good reproduction and play were essential to this low light image. Third place finisher Jason Halstead photograph of a dog playing fetch, really captured the dogs "game face,” timing was everything for this photograph from the Stonewall (MB) Argus & Teulon Times. Overall there were a lot of great images in this class, some however, were clearly in the wrong category, i.e. sporting events. Others suffered from poor cropping.
