Judge's Comments
Wow! The choices are getting much harder from a great selection of editorials written. Almost half of the editorials were on the same subject of same sex marriage with many different opinions being offered across the country.
The winner is Michael Behan of the Fort Frances (ON) Times for a very clear, to the point (as if he banged your head with a 2 X 4 to get your attention!) editorial with a summation that clearly says it all "We cannot after all, purport to be a nation of free and equal people, except if you're different."
Second place finisher Sharon McCully of the Sherbrooke (QC) The Record wrote about a different theme; the missing Canadian flag, and her attached note indicates that a Canadian flag was raised in her community one week after the editorial was published, which helps to remind us of the power of a free press.
