General
Information
The Canadian Community
Newspapers Association encourages excellence by sponsoring
an annual national competition to celebrate the achievements
of its member newspapers.
Newspapers compete
against other newspapers of similar circulation for
Special and Premier awards in such categories as editorial,
photography, advertising and special promotion. In addition,
newspapers compete in the General Excellence Competition,
which recognizes newspapers for the best Editorial Page,
Best Front Page and Best All-round Newspaper. Newspapers
in the top one-third of entries are awarded a Blue Ribbon.
Entering
The CCNA Better Newspapers Competition is only open
to CCNA members in good standing. Complete details about
entering are made available to members in November/December
of each year.
Judging
Judges with expertise in the various areas
of competition review all of the entries, rate them
and make extensive comments for the benefit of all entrants.
If you are interested in being a judge, please see below
for judging nominiation forms.
Announcing
the Winners
Nominees are announced and presentation of
the awards is made at the national
convention. CCNA mounts an extensive display of
the winning entries at the convention. Each CCNA member
receives a results book following the convention. This
book is an extremely valuable learning tool. Publishers
and their staffs can study the winning entries, learn
from the comments made about their own entries and discover
some innovative ideas to improve their publications
and chances for a prize in next year's competition.
Sponsorship
CCNA seeks sponsors from the industry as well
as other organizations and individuals. See this convention
page for more sponsorship information.
